PAKISTAN Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has termed the address of President Asif Ali Zardari to a joint session of parliament nothing but a gimmick and another bid to fool the nation. In a statement, Party Chief Imran Khan, while expressing disappointment over Zardari’s speech said that while the president did mention the initiatives taken by his government during the past couple of years. He said the president paid lip service to the troubles and challenges faced by the downtrodden but did not offer any solutions to these lingering challenges.
Khan further said that all the so-called accomplishments mentioned by Zardari have only served the interests of an elitist clique, which had been fleecing the hapless masses with impunity.
The PTI chief said that the needy indigent had no access to the forms of the much trumpeted Benazir Income Support Programme. He added the president’s speech contained no allusion towards good governance, which had been obvious by its absence during the two year long tenure of the government, without which no justice could be meted out to the public nor could the intractable dispute of water sharing among federating units can be resolved.
PTI Secretary General Arif Alvi, Central Information Secretary Omar Sarfaraz Cheema and Central Additional Secretary Saifullah Niazi also criticised President Zardari’s address to the joint session of the Parliament while terming it an exercise of mass deception.
They said that the long winded oration presented no solution whatsoever to the dire challenges faced by the nation and was only aimed at self congratulation and self aggrandizement. They also said while President Zardari heaped praise on his government, the hapless nation has been wracked by a maelstrom of rampant corruption, gross incompetence, spiralling inflation, rife unemployment and grievous poverty. The government has only added to the public woes and caused disillusionment among the nation, the PTI leaders said.
The PTI leaders also severally condemned the series of devastating bomb blasts at Peshawar and expressed profound grief at the loss of precious lives and widespread destruction. They urged the Government to devise policies as to cement the integrity of the country and national cohesion as to help stabilize the internal environment.
