Julia Mancuso, an Olympic skier for the United States has crossed paths with Lindsay Vonn numerous times over the past decade. The pair wound up at training facilities and ski camps in various parts of the country, and often wound up competing against each other. While never the best of friends, the pair have never been enemies either, but rather viewed themselves as healthy competative rivals.
Both Julia Mancuso and Linsday Vonn appeared on the Olympic Podium receiving medals for their expertise as downhill skiers on Wednesday; Lindsay Vonn winning the gold medal, and Julia Mancuso scoring the silver.
Julia Mancuso almost kept Lindsay Vonn from winning her gold medal, as she proved stiff competition on Wednesday. Vonn's husband actually phoned her as she awaited her turn, saying that Julia Mancuso had made an incredible run that would require "an incredible run" to beat.
Julia Mancuso is thrilled with her silver medal, as she has spent the past year or so plagued with serious back issues. To return as a silver medalist is quite an achievement.
"Just being on the podium is really a big accomplishment," Mancuso said. "I was just reminded that the last time I was on the podium was here in the World Cup (two years ago). Since then, I've battled with a lot of back injuries."
